After a lot of thought of where to take this blog next, I’ve decided to move on altogether. What started as a way for me to connect, share ideas, and hear from fabulous people like you, has served its purpose. I’ve loved being part of this community, but have lately been focused more on travel and personal development than fashion. So rather than revamp what’s here, I’m shifting over to Instagram. I hope you’ll join me there @poppieandperidot.
As the French say, au revoir… it’s not goodbye, it’s until we see each other again! xoxo
Hold on to your mint julep cups, it’s time to get your Derby on with the 143rd run of the Kentucky Derby! There’s something fantastic about big hats, sweet dresses and a whole lot of southern charm that makes this day just as much about fashion as it is about the race. So pull out your largest hat and your smallest purse (size rules apply if you’re attending in person), and enjoy the race!
Happy Saint Patrick’s day lovelies! I’m donning my green today and am so excited for Spring! But I know that many of us still have snow and winter like weather, so what better time to break out a holiday appropriate green coat. Aside from being the color of the year, green is fresh and happy.
How are you spending your St. Paddy’s day?!
Yes!! Can I just say how excited I am about Pantone’s selection for color of the year?! After last year’s uninspiring pink and blue pastels, Greenery is fresh, exciting and ready to pair with just about anything. The joy of green it it’s versatility to act as a happy accents to grays and browns, while still being bright and festive when paired with color in the spring.
Expect to see a lot of Greenery on the runways this year, and don’t be afraid to make a statement with this vibrant color. And if green just isn’t your color, a classic clutch or leather belt is the perfect accessory!
Have you noticed all the floral dresses in-store right now?! I typically think of floral as a spring or summer look, but this flirty, feminine style is right on trend this winter. Choose darker colors and pair with boots to keep the look seasonally appropriate. Accessorize with a wide leather belt or jacket for a casual look or update with a metal belt for evening.
Below are some great options, and one that won’t break the bank at all!
Stella McCartney Floral Dress | $788
H&M Knee Length Floral Dress | Sale Priced at $14.99
Marni Ruffled Floral Mini Dress | $1296
Happy New Year, lovelies!! I’m so excited for 2017 and everything it brings, but especially a new outlook and perspective on fashion and style. Every year it seems that I make the same resolutions – buy less, invest more, wear what I have, etc. And in 2016 I did a lot of that. I made a plan to invest mostly in shoes and handbags and I made some great choices. But you know what else happens when you do this… you miss out on some amazing pieces because you’re “not buying”.
This year I’m looking at fashion and pieces that are a bit outside of my comfort zone but still within my signature style, which I like to think of as a mix of classic, on-trend, and bohemian. My goal is to enhance my wardrobe, not add it it.
My first purchase of the year was a sleeveless cashmere sweater dress in black, similar to the one below. The look can go a number of ways depending on how it’s accessorized, and it can be worn as a tunic as well. What are your fashion resolutions?!
Welcome back to the wrap skirt! This super-flattering trend is making a name again this year, and in a much more sophisticated and edgy way. I had a closet full of wrap skirts in the 90s that were proper and preppy. Today’s skirt has an edge, with an asymmetrical hemline and lots of shorter options that work well from office to office party. What a perfect way to wear your winter white!
